“What kind of spirits? And what are they saying? Or do I not want to know?… It is nice up here! Thanks for talking me into coming up, Tar.” Gwen smiles over at her second cousin.
“Shh!” Tarrant says. She leans against the tree and sighs. “I didn’t do much, other than say it was fun. You’re the one who chose to follow me.” She says.
She looks over to see Tar leaning back with her eyes closed. “You’re missing the view with your eyes shut, silly head!” She’s grinning from ear to ear.
“No, I’m not,” Is the whispered reply. “I’m listening. You know, there are spirits all around us, and they only speak at certain times… Besides, it feels nice up here.”
He shakes his head sadly “No, I, I dont think so. I’m sorry. But I hope we can stay at least some what friendly. You were my first girlfriend. And that will always be special to me”
“Oh. I see. Well, I’ll miss you, Tom… you were my first boyfriend, and I really enjoyed the time we spent together. I’ll be gone before you know it.” She jogs off to her bedroom and starts to gather her things.
He stares at her “24/7? Tarrant, you haven’t been around for weeks! I haven’t been trying? I’m the only one that tries! I bought a house, I got a car, and a job. I made friends with your mother, a woman that doesn’t trust, and pretty much hates me, because you wanted me to! I took care of baby you for a few day because the two of you wanted me to. What brought this on is that I put my heart and soul into a relationship with you, and you give nothing back! And I’m done. I’m just done.”
Tarrant sighs. “I… I’m sorry. You’re absolutely right. I’ve been selfish, and undeserving, and… and you deserve much better than me. I’ll get my things and go.” She turns around to walk away before a thought strikes her. “Wait. Before I go, you should have this back.” She walks back over and takes his ring off of her finger. “And, I need to know… Is there any hope of working things out?”
He looks up at her with big painful eyes “Any of it” He says softly. “I’m sorry, but.. I just, I don’t think this is working. I thought asking you to marry me would bring us closer together, but instead you seem to have just gone further away.”
She blinks hard. “Oh. I see. You’re… dumping me because I’ve been elsewhere?! Because I haven’t been around you 24/7?! I haven’t exactly seen you trying to be around me more, either! Besides, I thought we were going to start planning our wedding soon!” Tarrant sighs. “What… what brought this on, exactly?!”
“What… what are you getting at, Tom? What’s not a good idea? You being human-sized? Us living together, or… or…” She trails off, not wanting to think of what he could be getting at.
my job mostly. i’m a sex fairy, and people who know that, well they tend to hate me at once, without even talking to me. then the other sex fairies hate me, because i’m not as graceful as i should be. i’m just sort of a mess up i guess.
“That’s… an odd job for you to have. I didn’t know it was allowed… Hey! Maybe I’ll try the same thing! Then I could earn Ma some money to pay for expenses!”
